Heel Pain Pain Relief with Acupuncture

Plantar Faciitis Acupuncture Brisbane

Heel Pain is usually caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is on the bottom of your foot. What happens is patients usually wake up early in the morning and their feet is really, really sore and takes about 10-20 minutes to really warm-up. They feel like they are walking in razor blades, there’s a sharp sensation at the bottom of the heel. Plantar Fasciitis is also common in runners. Roughly takes 10% of running injuries. It also accounts 11-15% of all heel pain.
Traditional treatments include Orthotics, going to Physio, doing exercises, shockwave therapy, PRP injections and these treatments are often expensive and ineffective. If you tried all these and nothing else has worked for you, acupuncture maybe an option for you.

With acupuncture, what happens is needles are placed either on the fingers, on the hands or on the scalp. This is used to stimulate the body’s limbic system. Once the body’s limbic system is stimulated the brain produces endorphins, which is your body’s natural pain killer. From then on, the patient is encouraged to move, stretch and actually do some exercises to encourage local blood flow. As treatments progressed should be able to see improvement with each and every session.

If you have any questions about treatment of Plantar Fasciitis using Chinese medicine, please send us an email at info@artofacupuncture.com.au

4 Ways to Relieve Tennis Elbow Acupuncture Brisbane

Tennis elbow is a commonly caused by overuse of arm, forearm, and hand muscles that results in elbow pain. As the term itself describes, it is often seen in tennis players.

Tennis elbow is caused by either abrupt or subtle injury of the muscle and tendon area around the outside of the elbow. Tennis elbow specifically involves the area where the muscles and tendons of the forearm attach to the outside bony area (called the lateral epicondyle) of the elbow. (webmd)

The GP will generally prescribe painkillers if the symptoms are bad but generally aside from that, no further care is given or suggested.

There are several things you can do once you start to feel symptoms of tennis elbow:

1) Heat Pack

Since tennis/golfer’s elbow is caused by inflammation of the surrounding ligaments and or tendons, it is generally a good idea to keep a warm heat pack when possible. The heat helps circulate blood and reduce inflammation.

2) Rest

Often times, activities such as golf, tennis, and strenuous activity may be re-injuring the tendons and ligaments. Stop doing whatever activity may be aggravating the tennis elbow. Contrary to popular saying: “pain is weakness leaving the body.” It often times is not. Pain is your body telling you to stop before it gets worse.

3) Acupuncture

A 2012 study conducted by the Journal of American Medical Association concluded that acupuncture is a good option for patients suffering form chronic pain.[1] Recent research has also shown that acupuncture works on the brain’s limbic system controling the body’s pain signals stopping pain.Acupuncture is very effective in treating tennis elbow is very commonly treated in our acupuncture Brisbane clinic. Hair thin sterilised needles are placed at different points throughout the body in order to relieve pain and increase blood flow to the affected area.

In the video below, we talk about a Tennis Elbow Acupuncture Brisbane case study. This patient never had acupuncture before and decided to try because he was having pain in the elbow and it was affecting his performance on the golf course.

After the first treatment the pain disappeared for several days but came back less severe. By the third treatment it was about 85% gone.

4) Zheng Gu Shui Liniment

Zheng Gu Shui is traditionally used in Chinese Medicine for sports injuries and helping strained muscles heal and is especially helpful for Tennis Elbow. The main ingredient in Zheng gu shui is pseudogensing and other good circulating herbs. When applied, Zheng Gu Shui stops the pain and quickly starts the healing process. For broken bones and fractures, it can actually speed the regeneration of broken bone tissue. That does not mean it is unnecessary to see a doctor (one should always seek medical attention for an injury), but applying the formula to an injury right away before seeing the doctor will help with the pain. Get Pain Relief Now: Acupuncture for Arthritis

Acupuncture for Arthritis

According to the Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment Manual (2013) Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic inflmammatory disease whose major manifestation is inflammation of multiple joints. The cause is often unknown and if can often cause destruction of the synovial joints.

Patients usually wake up complaining of stiffness in affected joints (usually hands and feet.) Deformities are common as the disease progresses. MRI and imaging usually find narrowing or joint spaces and osteoporosis along with joint erosion. Patients may also complain about dry eye and nodules forming over bony prominences.

NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories)  provide some symptomatic relief in rheumatoid arthritis but do not prevent erosions or alter disease progression. Long dosages of these drugs over time can cause gastro-intestinal ulcers and bleeding. Steroids such as Prednisone may also be used but over time this too can lead to osteoporosis.

In the east, Chinese medicine has been used for thousands of years to treat many ailments such as these. Although there is currently no cure for arthritis, there are several things you can try to control the symptoms and stop it from getting worse. In this article we will discuss 3 different ways Chinese medicine can help naturally:

Diet

Chinese Medicine classifies arthritis under cold dampness. Therefore, it is important to avoid cold uncooked food as well as cold drinks. Avoid foods such as sugar, caffeine, salt, dairy, saturated fats and hydrogenated fats. This type of food increases cold and dampness, which may end up increasing the inflammation in the body.

Acupuncture

According to Chinese Medicine, Rheumatoid arthritis is classified as wind dampness pathogen. Contributing factors such as  long living in a damp environment and contraction of wind, cold, for long periods of time affect the joints. Because blood flow is unable flow properly to that area for long periods of time, energy gets “stuck.” The goal of treatment of RA would be to expel wind and dispel dampness pathogens and warm the channels of the body.

Herbal Therapy

Herbal therapy essential when treating arthritic pain. Herbal remedies in chronic cases expel the cold and dampness in the body when patients are not receiving treatment and give the body that extra boost it needs to keep the inflammation away.

There is a very effective patent formula called Du Huo Ji Sheng Wan for arthritis. You can pick it up at your local Chinese medicine practitioner and ask for more details. Its main ingredients include Angelica pubescens root and Loranthus stem which are used to treat arthritic and rheumatic disorders. These both have anti- inflammatory and analgesic properties.
