How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is based on a system of points and meridians which has a rich history dating back thousands of years from ancient China. Through stimulating different points throughout the body, acupuncture is able to tap into the body’s own natural healing ability. Recent studies how shown how acupuncture effects the limbic system (the part which controls sensation of pain) and causes release endorphins and also increases blood flow and circulation to different areas of the body.
Needles are placed distally to the area pain and all treatments can be performed while the patient is in a seated position or lying down. The only parts of the body needed are the lower arms, legs, and the head.  The body begins to correct the root of the problem from the very first treatment.
Acupuncture aims to treat the root of the problem rather than just the symptom. It aims to treat the body as a whole and not just different parts. The reason is all because it all comes from the day we were conceived and developed from an embryo, to a fetus, and eventually, a human being.
At one point everything was connected together as one unit. This is why points on the foot can treat the head, points on the arm can treat the leg. Everything in your body is connected and has the capacity to heal itself if we give it the chance. What acupuncture does is that it gives the body that extra push it needs to overcome an ailment.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

As long as it is performed by a fully trained and licensed  practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. We use one time use disposable needles that are discarded immediately afterward.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

No, acupuncture should not hurt. Sometimes a momentary prick can be felt around the needle as it is inserted similar to a mosquito bite. A dull or tingling sensation around the area is sometimes felt. Most people are amazed by how relaxed they feel during the treatment. This can only occur if the treatment is comfortable and gentle.
